-
Script supervisors don’t just watch for coffee cups in shot.
We track dialogue, movement, timing, camera setups, and continuity across every take—long before it gets to post. -
Continuity errors can lead to costly pickups or fixes in post.
One of the key responsibilities of a script supervisor is to catch those issues before they become a problem—saving time, money, and a lot of post-production pain. -
The term continuity supervisor is often used interchangeably with script supervisor.
Whether the credit says script or continuity, the job is the same: ensuring visual and narrative consistency from scene to scene. -
A script supervisor’s notes don’t just help on set — they’re crucial in post.
Editors rely on our logs to match takes, track continuity, and flag issues before they hit the final cut. It’s one of the few roles that directly connects the shoot to the edit. -
Not all script supervisors work the same way.
Some still prefer pen, paper and stopwatch; others (like me) work fully digital. Tools like ScriptE for iPad and Mac allow for faster, cleaner note-taking — and better communication with editorial during and after the shoot. Post producers have been known to ask for my "Report to Editor".
